Thrifty Ideas for Decorators

Thrifty Ideas for Decorators-

By Reuben Riggs

Decorating your home is a project that can quickly turn from reasonably priced to "oh my gosh, it's how much?" It is easy to get carried away with your "vision" for your home and forget to watch your spending. Try not to worry too much if you do not have a lot of money available for your decorating project-you can still have a beautiful home! Creating a fantastic decorating scheme for your home does not have to require the spending of lots of money.

Put your furniture in new places Most people don't know that a simple rearranging of their furniture can be all it takes to give a room a whole new look. A book on Feng Shui or a home decor magazine might give you more than enough ideas for this type of project. Your couch does not have to live at the edge of the room-move it closer to the middle! Beds don't have to sit in the middle of the room or wall-putting them in the corner can create a new look. Don't point all your furniture at the tv-create an atmosphere for conversation by pointing your "seating" furnishings at each other. Let the television be an afterthought. Put your kitchen utensils in creative containers and let them decorate your countertops. Sometimes all you need to do is move stuff around to create a new decorating scheme.

The thrift store is your friend. Second hand stores and thrift stores can be goldmines for people who want to decorate their homes without spending a lot of money. Decorative items fill the shelves of these stores; you just have to know how to identify them. Turning thrift store finds into home decorations is easy; you simply need some time and imagination. Those funny looking clothes that you often laugh at while browsing through thrift stores can easily be turned into other things. If you want really great stuff from your thrift store shop at the thirft stores in the wealthier areas of town.

Think outside the box! There are plenty of things in your home that can be repurposed to be decorative. If you hang your pans and pots up on the wall not only will you save yourself time when you need to search for one of them you'll add some great levels of artistry to your kitchen walls! You won't have to worry about being able to find the pan you need-it will be right there on the wall!

This was Julia Child's favorite way to use her kitchen ware. What about that quilt that has been handed down to you from your grandmother? Wouldn't it make a great wall hanging? Using quilts and blankets as wall hangings can be a great way of honoring your family's past and decorating your home! Look around-what functional item can you display?

Decorating with found items is something that everybody can do. Just take some time and let yourself be creative. Believe it or not, sometimes a wall with nothing on it is better than one that is filled with decorations.

Sometimes homemade artwork is just as good as something that can be bought in a store. Do some thinking before you start to decorate. Jumping in and going overboard is only good for emptying the bank account.
