Do You Want to Give a Better Back Massage?

Do You Want to Give a Better Back Massage?

By Princess Bafford
Everybody would like to get a massage but not everybody feels comfortable giving them to somebody. Most individuals are typically scared of hurting someone else. We are afraid that we may not help enough. We're worried that others won't like what we are doing. The great news is that it is possible to learn how to give a terrific massage each time you want to do so. Here's info on how you too can give anyone an awesome back massage.

To start, you need to make sure that the person is comfortable while he is lying down. They have to be laying down on a surface that is both firm and soft. You don't have to have a fancy massage table table but you might have them lie down on a bed. If they are lying on the floor, spread a few soft blankets, towels or a mat so that the person will feel comfortable. If the massage-ee wants to keep his or her shirt on, make sure that the shirt is made of a softer material to prevent accidental scraping and friction build up.

Start with a few basic rubbing. Using the whole flat side of your hands, slowly rub up from the lower back area toward the neck. This rub has to have at least some pressure in it but don't use your full massage pressure yet. Start at the base of the back and then glide your hands up the back then across the shoulders and then back down the back. Try making the loops smaller as you repeat this step so that the whole back can be loosened.

Use the heels of your hands to generate good and specific pressure. Move the heels of your palms in little circles starting out in the middle of the base of the back and then working out toward the sides, upwards and then back toward the spine until you've done this to the entire back of the person.

Try sitting at the side of the individual who is receiving the massage. Next, placing one hand on top of the other hand, push into the back with your fingers. Start at the spinal column and push steadily while moving your hands away from the spine and across the back then lightly slide your hands back across the back toward the spine. Repeat this step as you move upward along the person's back and then do the same things on the other side of the person's back.

Massage the backbone. Starting with the base of the spine, work your way up each of the sausage like muscles on either side of the spine by rubbing in tiny circles with a couple of fingers or your thumbs. Rub each node at least five times each so that you can work up a bit of friction. Rub all the way up one side of the back and then massage the other side.

One of the things to bear in mind as you work through these massage techniques is that it is good to re-relax your person between each portion of the massage you're giving. For instance, after after each massage technique, do the basic rub we talked about at the beginning of the article for a couple of minutes.
